A Eulogy – The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Movie Poster

It never even saw the light of production, heard ‘cut’ yelled across set, or heard a scream in a sound stage. The follow up movie to The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, has been shut down before it even started production. Due to low numbers from the first film, Sony has decided to ‘delay’ production of City of Ashes…indefinitely.

We here at justjmac are indefinitely saddened by this delay. Besides one or two slightly corny bits it was a quite pleasant movie to watch. Now, I don’t know if one could follow it if they hadn’t read the books but still… they should just go ahead and make it for our sake.

le sad.

First trailer & poster for ‘The Spectacular Now’ starring Shailene Woodley & Miles Teller

spectacular-now-poster

You may have had your fill of Shailene Woodley today, what with the release of Entertainment Weekly’s new images of Shailene and Divergent co-star Theo James, and a few new stills from that film, as well as the news that Woodley’s role has been cut from The Amazing Spider Man 2, and will be recast for the third film. But don’t let that keep you from watching this trailer.

spectacular-now-still

The Spectacular Now stars Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller, who also stars with her in Divergent, and it looks GOOD. The film was well-received at Sundance, and the duo both took acting honors at the fest, as well. And, heck, it has Coach Taylor in it. You can’t lose with this movie, it looks like. Check it out!

An Uninformed and Silly Girl Review of ‘Man of Steel’

Okay guys, I’m just going to be completely honest here. My intense knowledge of “Superman” in general pretty much begins and end’s with Dean Cain aka… the Superman of the nineties from the hit show “Lois and Clark”.I’m an 80’s baby and what teenage girl in the 90’s didn’t think Dean Cain was smokin’ as Superman?

Those Tat's are SO hot

Those Tat’s are SO hot

Granted, I did see the 2006 “Superman Returns” on dvd and all I pretty much remember is that Kate Bosworth was really skinny and Jame’s Marsden was way hotter than the dude that played Superman (Brandon Routh for inquiring minds, yeah I don’t remember him either). While I do consider myself a girly girl, I DID have 2 older brothers, and was very well acquainted with Star Wars, GI Joe, He-Man and Super Heroes (particularly Batman, I had a viewing of ‘Batman and Robin’ at my 13th birthday party- Hello, Chris O’Donnell as Robin!) Since I got married, my husband and I have enjoyed keeping up with the various super hero movies. Spider man, X-Men, the NEW Batman Movies, Iron Man, (all them other Marvel comic ones) Avengers was awesome and so on.

I first heard there was going to be another Superman last summer at Comic Con when walking past the WB booth in the exhibit hall and there was a HUGE line with tons of security and Henry Cavill was signing autographs. I thought “Hmmm… He’s pretty cute” and got in trouble for stopping to try to take a picture of him. Which I succeeded in, albeit that it’s blurry. I honestly didn’t think another thought about it until the trailer came out a few months ago. I thought. “Whoa, That looks really good”, It looked pretty interesting!

Henry Cavill at Comic Con 2012

So here is my very uninformed review, short and sweet and I know I will sound silly to all you comic book nerds, which I honestly don’t know how many of you follow us. I’m assuming most of you are like me who have a boyfriend or husband that want’s to go see it so this is what I’m gonna tell you. HENRY CAVILL. Holy Wow on a Cracker.

Thankfully I watched enough ‘Lois and Clark’ to get the basic jest of the story and what was going on. Some of the beginning was kind of weird/freaky stuff. ( Growing babies in pods? Cal El (super man) was the first naturally conceived birth in like hundreds of years which is why he is so special) I really loved Russel Crowe in this, mainly because he was NOT singing. Kevin Costner was the most awesome human dad for little Clark Kent. There was one scene that my husband asked if he was going to take Clark to his ‘Field of Dreams’ though which made me giggle. They got THE cutest little boy/teenager to play him a young Clark. There is a flash back scene that was just to die for. Diane Lane is old. All I kept thinking when I saw her was her running up to Mark Whalberg in ‘The Perfect Storm’ and jumping him in booty shorts and how hot my husband thought she was…. uhhh like 13 years ago. Yup just dated myself. Amy Adam’s as Lois Lane was absolutely perfect. How can you not LOVE Amy Adam’s. She is by far one of my favorite actresses. Plenty of sexual tension, I wanted to scream “Just KISS already!” The Villain “General Zod” played by Michael Shannon was really great. Spoiler Alert: there is no “kryptonite” but the way they made him have a weakness worked.

Field of Dreams?

Field of Dreams?

SO Cute!!

SO Cute!!

So Lets get back to Henry Cavill. The man IS Superman. Literally he embodies him. His performance was absolutely fantastic and I’m pretty sure he has taken over as my favorite super-hero now. I did have a bit of an “Incredibles” moment though when his cape worked against him a few times… “NO CAPES!” And lets discuss these muscles. And the Beard. And the Suit. And the Hair. And the teeth. Well. Maybe I should just let the rest of my review be in pictures and let it speak for itself. Fun Fact… He auditioned for ‘Edward’ in ‘Twilight’. Hmmm… Bottom line is- I thought it was great. I took my 8-year-old and 10-year-old daughters as well at 16-year-old nephew and they all loved it so I think it’s pretty safe to say that it can reach a broad audience! Go for a date with your man ladies! You won’t leave disappointed!

{PICTURES} Ryan Gosling and Matt Smith Seen Filming in Detroit

Can I just point out one thing. The coolest Doctor to-date and Ryan Gosling are hanging out and working together on the film, Hot To Catch A Monster. This is enough to make any fangirl have a heart attack but then you add in the fact that Matt Smith without the floppy hair and¬†bow-tie¬†is… well… HOT.

And by the look of these photos, an evil character. (is that a horse shoe, make shift, belt buckle?) Holy-cannoli, when did The 11th Doctor get abs? This is all so much to take in. My brain is suddenly, oddly attracted to  this ab wearing, shaved headed Matt Smith.

Gosling is directing the film which is about “A single mother is swept into a dark underworld, while her teenage son discovers a road that leads him to a secret underwater town,” according to the imdb page. ¬†Other actors rumored to be in¬†How To Catch A Monster¬† include: Eva Mendes, Saoirse Ronan and Christina Hendricks.

SIDE NOTE: They are filming in Detroit. Our Teammate Sarah lives in Detroit. Why she isn’t on set, every day, I’m not sure.

The Great Gatsby 3D Review- Get to the theater and see it!

greatgatsbyleo500-3d

When I first saw that Leonardo DiCaprio was filming the Great Gatsby last year I squeeled because well, I am a child of the 90’s so yeah, of course I love pretty much anything with Leo in it. Then I started seeing the pictures from the set… and finally the first trailer. It made my heart race. Last night when I got to screen the movie, That was also the same effect it had on me. Being an avid reader, you would think that I would have read the book, but for one reason or another I just have never gotten around to it, so this review is coming from someone who knew OF the story but not the¬†whole story. I for one was absolutely thrilled with how it was portrayed. Now, how true to the book it was, I cannot I say. I am curious to hear what more people have to say about that after opening weekend.

First off, let me state that I am generally NOT a fan of movies in 3D. When I walked in and was handed glasses, I thought, “Great.” and was kind of annoyed. However I was glad to finally have been proven wrong, that 3D can actually be quite visually stunning! The very opening sequence had me in awe. I normally think 3D is too dark, that it’s distracting, and I get sick of wearing the glasses. However with this film, it was fantastic! The color was still vibrant, the effects were spot on, they added so much depth to the movie and I eventually forgot that I was wearing them and quite enjoyed Leonardo DiCaprio in 3D! The Snow. The Mist. The Green Light. You. Will. See.¬†tumblr_mfecjrXFAD1qbnt5go1_1280

As a whole, I was very pleased with this film. I am going to go out on a limb and say that it is my favorite film that I’ve seen of 2013! The acting was spot on. The story was amazing. The theme of the American Dream,¬†self-reinvention and love lost, regained and lost again is touching and tragic. The anticipation of meeting “Gatsby” played by Leonardo DiCaprio was quite well done and when you finally see him its almost breathtaking. ¬†Nick Carraway (Played by Tobey McGuire) narrates the film while his voice is probably not my favorite, he did a decent job. Carey Mulligan who plays “Daisy¬†Buchanan” was standout to me. Her poise and¬†mannerism’s¬†made me fall in love with this girl. Leo obviously knocked the¬†ball out of the park with this one too. While the term “Old Sport” may have been used 12 times too many, I understand that was part of the character he played… and boy did he play it well.¬†

thegreatgatsby3d-mv-29

I think I have learned that I really just love Baz Luhrmann films. The ambiance of the film felt very “Moulin Rouge” if you will. The¬†eccentric¬†camera angles and filming vantage points. The slightly exaggerated costumes for the time period. The color’s just a bit brighter than maybe they would have been in the 1920’s. The soundtrack. I absolutely LOVE when a time period piece pulls modern day music and works it into a soundtrack. Lana Del Ray, Beyonce, Jay Z. When they are heading into New York City and you catch a slight chorus of “H to the Izzo” by Jay Z the entire theater loved it. It somehow fit. An¬†acoustic¬†version of “Crazy in Love”. I immediately went home and downloaded the soundtrack! I found it brilliant! The modern “edge” to the parties thrown at Gatsby’s were unique and thrilling. The set’s were amazing. Gatsby’s “castle” it absolutely ridiculous.¬†

thegreatgatsby3d-mv-2thegreatgatsby3d-mv-59I definitely would reccomend getting to the theater to see this movie! I laughed, My heart raced, I got teary, it truly gave me all the feels! I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!
